A LOCAL woman is doing her bit to help prevent one of the world's most common - and preventable - forms of cancer.
Sarah Causer's Byron Bay Beach Shades has received one of Australia's highest safety ratings from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA).
"The fabric blocks out 99.9% ultraviolet (UV) light, which is 50+ ARPANSA rated and approved," Sarah said of her locally-assembled product.
"While skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, it can be prevented if people protect themselves from UV rays when outdoors."
The retro-inspired design is easy to assemble and suitable for park, picnic, pool and beach.
"I love the beach and having the shade allows me to stay the whole day while being protected from the sun," Sarah said.
"With it predicted to be one of the hottest summers on record, it's important for people to stay sun safe this summer."
