THE Police Integrity Commission will hold a public hearing in February into the bashing of a man at Ballina police station last year.

The Northern Star revealed in July three police would be investigated over the incident and in August reported it had been shown footage of the incident from a CCTV camera at the station.

In a statement, the Police Integrity Commission announced it would hold a public hearing into the bashing at the commission's hearing room, Level 3, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, from 10am, Monday, February 18.

In its statement, the commission said the "general scope and purpose" of the hearing would be: "To investigate whether any officer of the NSW Police Force was involved in serious police misconduct or criminal activity in the arrest and detention of Corey Matthew Barker on 14 January 2011 at Ballina and in the subsequent prosecution of Corey Matthew Barker for offences alleged to have been committed by him on that date."

The commission has asked anyone with information relevant to the case to contact it by email, by phone on 02 9321 6700 or toll free on 1800 657 079, by fax on 02 9231 6799, or by mail at GPO Box 3880, Sydney, NSW, 2001.
