BALLINA'S Hayley Morris is hoping her star is on the rise after she was selected as a finalist in the Miss Galaxy Australia pageant.

The university student and mother of one said if she was selected as Miss Galaxy Australia she will be flown to the United States to represent Australia in the Miss World Galaxy Pageant against 30 other countries.

Ms Morris said Miss Galaxy was about using your beauty and intelligence to do something good.

"The pageant is not just a competition where people compete against who is the most beautiful, it is much more than that," she said.

"I have dedicated my time to organising online donations, silent auctions and raffles to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, in order to give back to the community.

"The reason I became involved in this pageant was to use my title to help people who need it most and be the best role model for the community I can be.

"It would mean the world to me to take out the big title, however, the experience so far as been far more rewarding than I ever thought possible."

Now living on the Gold Coast, Ms Morris who is studying a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Griffith University was recently selected as a Queensland finalist in the pageant.

She said her success in the pageant has enabled her to secure sponsorship from two fantastic businesses, Challenges Abroad and La Chic clothing.

Ultimately she said she hopes to do her home town proud in the finals in Sydney on March 24.
