Black Caviar resumes full training

RACING: Champion mare Black Caviar resumes full training Monday morning, but trainer Peter Moody says there is no guarantee she will race again.

The world's best sprinter had a brief break after returning from her successful trip to England where she narrowly won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

She then completed a month's pre-training at Murchison before having another month's spell, three weeks of light training and then another two weeks off.

Moody told RSN that all going well, Black Caviar would be aimed at the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) to be contested at Flemington in February.

The race has been renamed in the mare's honour in recognition of the seven Group 1 races the unbeaten superstar has won at headquarters.

"She's full bore towards the Lightning," Moody said.

"We're very happy with her, but obviously extremely conscious of the situation we are in with her that we don't want to see her beaten now.

"We certainly won't hesitate to retire her along the way, but I'm hopeful that we do get her back to the track in the great form that she's shown all along."

The return of Black Caviar will provide another boost for Moody who endured very lean pickings during the spring.

The unusually quiet run ended on Saturday with doubles at Caulfield and Warwick Farm.

Unbeaten colt Office Bearer kicked off the quartet of wins when he took his record to three wins from three starts in race two at Warwick Farm.

Moody then scored a home-track double at Caulfield with promising three-year-old Lampedusa winning the $80,000 Carpet Call Handicap (1440m) for Luke Nolen, before Shout Out Loud took out the $100,000 65 Roses Victoria Cup (1440m) for apprentice Jake Duffy.

Lightly-raced stallion Privately then capped off a good day for the stable by taking out the last race at Warwick Farm at the juicy odds of $14.
