LOGAN Ridgeway, from Ballina, is a brave little boy.

But even the bravest can do with a helping hand - and Logan's family needs one.

Three-year-old Logan has cerebral palsy and a rare chromosome disorder which only affects three children in the world.

He was last year presented with a bravery award at the Our Kids Day Out in Ballina. Logan requires a lot of care because he can't do much for himself, and is fed through a tube.

He is now three-quarters blind, and his family isn't sure if his eyesight will deteriorate further.

He has just started crawling, but can't walk.

His mum Mandy said Logan bumped into things around the house, which she said was now "pretty much bare" to try to prevent injuries.

But he has developed a behavioural habit now of banging his head.

His family would like to convert one of the rooms in their house to a padded sensory room to give Logan a safe place to play, and toys that will help his development.

But the estimated $20,000 that would cost is beyond their reach.

Friends of the family, Tina Moore and Laila Williamson, have now stepped in to fundraise for the family.

They convinced Mandy to also come on board with their efforts.

Mandy said a padded room would help give the family peace of mind.

"We just want to be able to have him in a room where he can't hurt himself in any way," she said.

"You can't turn your back on him at the moment.

"There's the fear of him cracking his head open or hurting himself."

And she said they don't want to put the little fella with such a big, bright personality in a helmet all the time.

A fundraiser will be held on February 23 at the Shaws Bay Hotel in East Ballina, from 1-6pm, featuring local band Smooth Groove, plaster painting, a cake stall, face-painting and raffles.

Local businesses have donated about 70 prizes to be raffled.
