Updated report, 5.20pm:

THE transport management centre has issued a warning for motorists to avoid being on the road as the wild weather continues to batter the Northern Rivers.

Extreme winds have caused trees to fall across the road south of Ballina with traffic delays and closures occurring on the Pacific Highway.

The damage has been reported as widespread across the coast with heavy rain causing flooding in some areas

Updated report, 2.38pm:

With winds taking off roofs in Ballina and 14000 North Coast residents without power, the Tweed, so far, has been spared the brunt of a storm currently raging across the region.

Muwillumbah SES controller Chris Chrisostomos reported only a few fallen trees have been reported, with one large pine tree falling on a shed at Uki.

We will keep you informed of the situation across the Tweed as it happens.

Initial report, 11am:

THE Bureau of Meteorology has reduced the warning level for flooding in the Tweed River.

The bureau has reduced its warning to minor flooding on the river with the rain system slowly moving south.

There is now a severe weather warning for Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter and Northern Tablelands.

The Tweed River has had a 'flood watch' for days and was as high as major flood warning earlier in the week.

With the system still moving south off the coast the heaviest falls were at Tweed Heads with 51mm in the last 24 hours to 9am this morning.
