YOU would think in a house with 15 children, it might be hard to find time for romance but Jeni and Ray Bonell always make time for each other.

"There is always time for romance and if there's not we make some," Mrs Bonell said.

The couple will be celebrating tomorrow's romantic holiday not with some flashy dinner or fuss, but with a little date.

"I don't like the commercial side of Valentine's Day," Mrs Bonell said.

"I think if you get any opportunity to show someone they're loved you should, regardless of what day it is.

"It's the day-to-day 'I love you' that's important."

The Toowoomba couple were married in the city 24 years ago after meeting at a nightclub when Mrs Bonell was 19 and Mr Bonell 20.

"It was two weeks after we met that Ray proposed," Mrs Bonell said.

The couple renewed their vows four years ago.

She said she and her husband kept romance alive in the house by going out on dates.

"We date - sneak away for a weekend or it can be as simple as going out for a nice dinner or sitting out on the veranda with a cuppa or an ice-cream after the kids have gone to bed."

She said it could be easy to get caught up in the busy day-to-day rush.

"You almost have to schedule it in sometimes," she said.

"It's easier now we can make a time with the older kids so we can do something.

"When they were little we had to ask family members and when you've got nine little kids running around to look after, that's a big ask."
