WORKERS at Goodstart Early Learning at Tweed Heads South have been seeing double.

The childcare centre has five set of twins in the one class, with three of the sets identical.

Childcare assistant Lisa Smith, who has worked at the centre for more than seven years, said she had never worked with so many twins at once.

"It's a real challenge identifying who is who," Ms Smith said.

"We will say Harrison has the blue shirt on today."

Parents are accommodating and dress the children differently each day.

"I think they (parents) realise that it is a challenge for us," she said.

Ms Smith said staff put masking tape on the back of each twin to identify them and so the child couldn't take it off.

"At the end of the year we send home an achievement journal for each child," Ms Smith said.

"Because we have trouble identifying between the twins we have one journal for the twins but it's twice as thick."

Angela Foley is the mother of twins Violet and Winter Pettinari.

"I'm very busy. It's non-stop with double the joy and double the pain," she said. "I totally understand the confusion (at the childcare centre) but they still give both the attention they need."

Ms Foley said one of the biggest challenges was to ensure each child received individual attention.
