WHILE Murwillumbah mother of two Donna Duff is undergoing rehabilitation therapy at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane one thing that keeps her in touch with family is her laptop computer.

Mrs Duff's laptop was damaged by a hospital staff member leaving Donna without the means to talk to her family or fill some of the many hours spent in the hospital ward.

As patients' property is not covered by the hospital's insurance, Donna could not replace her laptop and faced being cut off from her family over Christmas.

When Poster Paradise store manager Sandra Guthrie found out about Donna's loss, she approached Murwillumbah Central Rotary Club member Dennis Hallworth and explained Donna's predicament.

The Rotary club responded quickly and a new laptop was ordered the following day.

Rotary member and Murwillumbah Electronics proprietor Bob Shepherd and his wife Diedri sourced the laptop from Leader Computers Pty Ltd in Adelaide which also donated an accessory pack.

Last Friday, Rotary president Jack Heffernan presented the new laptop to Donna's father, Tassie Duff, who was overwhelmed by the generosity of the people involved.

"I'm astounded by the kindness people of Murwillumbah and surrounds continue to show Donna.

"She loves talking to her family via Skype and will be able to do so again because of the generosity shown by the community," Mr Duff said.

Fundraising continues to help Donna with expenses and provide her with a wheelchair once she leaves hospital.

Anyone who is willing and able to lend a helping hand can contact Sandra at Poster Paradise, Main St, Murwillumbah or call (02) 6672 4833.
