A FREE community forum will be held on Friday tackling the increasing problem of cyber bullying in society and how it can be addressed.

Hosted by the School of Law and Justice at Southern Cross University SCU, world class experts will present on issues including legal, research, social media, psychology and community perspectives on cyber bullying.

Leading cyber bullying and peer relationship researcher Dr Barbara Spears will present the latest research and strategies aimed to support young people.

"Cyber aggression, threat, exploitation, stalking, harassment and bullying, are all relevant for the whole community, as these are relationship issues, and if we want to have ethical, digital citizenship for all, we must all be addressing these in many different ways," she said.

A recent cyber bullying report by KidsHelpline Australia found that 86% of participants between 10 and 16 years old had been impacted by cyber bullying in some way; including self-esteem, friendships, and grades.

Also presenting is Susan McLean who educating in schools throughout Australia is a foremost expert in the area of cyber safety and online issues and was a member of Victoria Police for 27years.

"A major concern is the mental health impact on victims, particularly vulnerable young people, but it is becoming a serious community health issue," she said.

The conference will be held in SCU's Whitebrook Theatre from 9.15am till 3.00pm.
