MOVE over boys, the girls are back in town for the Roxy Pro and the competition is looking fierce.

Long-time Daily News surf columnist Andrew McKinnon said this year the contest would showcase the world's best female surfers to date.

"It will be absolutely worth getting out there amongst the action checking out the hottest talent we've ever seen," he said.

"A lot of the girls are so good they're up there with the best of the men.

"Stephanie Gilmore won last year but will have to fight to the bone this year.

"Sally Fitzgibbons is hot on her heels-she's fit, focused, determined and fresh off her win from the Burleigh Breaker Pro.

Sally Fitzgibbons said she felt inspired watching Joel Parkinson win his world title.

"He has had his runner up positions- he has been there for ten odd years," she said.

"Hopefully I'm on a similar path and I get to enjoy my journey too."

The Pre-Roxy Pro Moskova trials will start on March 1. The winner will be chosen as the wildcard entrant for the main event.

Competing for the honour will be 12 year old Alyssa Lock, 16 year old Holly Daze-Coffey and four time world champion Lisa Andersen.

Alyssa Lock said if she won the wildcard she would have to pinch herself five times, just in case she was dreaming.

"To surf the main event against Steph would be amazing," she said.

The Roxy Pro is the first leg of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Titles. Competitions will continue through the year, finishing up in California in August.

The Roxy Pro will take place at Snapper rocks and will run from March 2-13. Admission is free for the public and there will live footage streamed on www.aspworldtour.com
