Doubtful Creek protest underway

UPDATE 1.45PM: POLICE rescue officers have been unable to remove protestor Matt Graham from his blockade installation device which is preventing vehicles entering Metgasco's Doubtful Creek site.

Police, who spent about two and a half hours trying to free Mr Graham have now cordoned off the area around the protester, allowing only one fellow protestor, who is providing shade, to remain.

A crowd of about 40 protestors are watching on from behind the cordon.

Two semi-trailers believed to be transporting drilling fluid and pumping equipment remain idle outside the gates, while a third - with its company logo covered with silver gaffe tape - is parked further up the road.   Moments ago police managed to clear a path for one semi-trailer to enter the site by going around Mr Graham. That was followed by about 30 protesters spontaneously forming a line in front of the gate, chanting 'we shall not be moved'.

NOON: AN ANTI-COAL seam gas protestor is holding up a convoy of semi-trailers at Metgasco's Doubtful Creek site after he locked his arm into the ground early this morning.

Two police are in attendance and a police rescue crew has been dispatched to remove the man.

The protestor, Matt Graham from The Channon, locked himself into the blockade device as the trucks were arriving about 7am.

He is surrounded by about 30 protesters who are fanning him and providing shade with umbrellas.
