SHE may have failed to collect a winner's cheque at Eagle Farm on Saturday, but Murwillumbah trained mare Leica Bita Lippy will have picked up a thing or two from her performance in the $45,000 Brisclean handicap for fillies and mares.

It was the four-year -ld's first trip to Brisbane racing headquarters and she was able to account for herself with a gutsy effort to finish runner-up, beaten in a photo by the barest of margins.

On jumping, jockey Jim Byrne was able to cross Leica Bita Lippy from a wide gate and show them a clean pair of heels early in the 1400m race.

It was as close as the field were to get until the shades of the post when Perfectress came out of the pack to cut down the Murwillumbah trained mare in the last stride.

On returning to scale Byrne jumped off the daughter of Nothin' Leica Dane to say she'd become distracted and taken her eye off the prize in front of the big-screen situated 50m from the finish.

Trainer Carolyn Halliday told My Daily News she was pleased with her charge's effort and that she can only gain from the experience.

"That's a long 400m straight at Eagle Farm and she just knuckled down and kept going.

"It was a good run and looked almost to have got there, but she's still learning," Halliday said in reference to the mare's moment of narcissism in front of the big-screen.

"She's BOBS Extra eligible so there's talk of finding the right race for her here in NSW next, maybe even Newcastle or Warwick Farm - we'll see."

Leica Bita Lippy has started 11 times for three wins and six placings, with Saturday's purse bringing her career earnings to $37,950.

In the previous race, the $45,000 Go Broncos handicap for colts, geldings and entires (0MW), another Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn was able to go one better with odds-on favourite The White Hope who broke the class record.

Describing the ghostly grey's 1.75 length win in the 1400m event as "effortless", Dunn said he yhoped bigger things were just around the corner for the gelding.

"He breaks a record every time he steps onto a track.

"I'm thinking the Magic Millions Cup in January from here."

The four-year-old son of Bradbury's Luck has started five times for four wins and $54,800 in prizemoney.

Murwillumbah racecourse hosts its next race day on Friday, December 14, a twilight meeting.
