Farm fresh produce now a weekly affair at Yamba market

FANS of Yamba Farmers' Market now have the chance to buy local, farm fresh produce and catch up with their favourite stall holders every Wednesday morning.

Clarence Valley Council yesterday announced the market would now operate weekly rather than fortnightly.

"The Yamba Farmers and Food Market is contributing to the economic activity within Yamba and financially benefits the local farmers and growers in the Clarence Valley," said Deputy General Manager Rob Donges.

"The provision of, and access to, fresh local high-quality produce is a great way of keeping business local, supporting the local producers and ensuring local food security for the valley community, by providing direct access to locally grown food for people in the Yamba area," he said.

"These weekly markets bring farmers and producers directly to the community so that the local people can be assured of the freshness and quality of the produce, by the person who has grown or produced it.

"As with Council's FoodLinks project, Farmers and Food Markets help ensure local food security and help greatly in reducing 'food miles' - avoiding food travelling long distances to the consumer."

The Yamba Farmers and Food Market is held from 7am to 12pm every Wednesday in the Whiting Beach car park of Flinders Reserve.
