UPDATE 9AM

A MAJOR flood warning has been issued for the Clarence River with it expected to reach 5.6 metres in Grafton at about 3am on Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology just released this warning:

There has been some easing of the rainfall across the Clarence River Valley this morning. Up to 22 millimetres of rain has been recorded in the 3 hours to 6 am this morning.

River levels at Nymboida peaked near 13.4 metres around 3 am this morning.

Major flooding is forecast at Grafton.

Further rain is forecast for the next 24 hours. At this stage it is not possible to predict the flood peak because of uncertainty over how much more rain will fall.

Predicted River Heights/Flows:

Grafton

- reach 5.6 metres around 3 am Sunday, with major flooding.

Ulmarra

- reach 4.4 metres around 6am Sunday, with major flooding.

Maclean

- reach 2.2 metres around 1am Monday, with moderate flooding.

This next warning will be issued by 11am Saturday [23/02/13].
 

RAIN and wind eased during the night and the Bureau of Meteorology flood warning for the Clarence River remains at minor to moderate.

Today it predicts scattered showers during the day and the chance of thunderstorms from this morning until late afternoon, mainly in the south.

Scattered showers are expected for the next three to four days with the chance of thunderstorms likely tomorrow.

There are still dangerous surf conditions.

The following flood warning was issued at 4.51am:

An average of 156 millimetres of rain has fallen during the past 33 hours to 3am Saturday [23/02/13]. However, rain has eased during the past 6 hours.

Minor flooding is current at Grafton.

Further rain is forecast for the next 24 hours.

At this stage it is not possible to predict the flood peak because of uncertainty over how much more rain will fall.

Predicted River Heights/Flows:

Grafton

- exceed moderate flood level (3.6 metres) Saturday afternoon

- with forecast rain reach 4.4 metres Saturday evening with moderate flooding

Ulmarra

- exceed 3.0 metres Saturday afternoon with minor flooding

- with forecast rain reach moderate flood level (3.4 metres) Saturday evening

Maclean - predictions will be provided when upstream peaks are noted
