A FORMER councillor has nominated for a role on a state government planning organisation.

Kevin Skinner is one of seven nominees to be considered at the Tweed Shire Council meeting on Thursday for the council's representative on the Joint Regional Planning Panel for the next three years.

Mr Skinner application was to be considered along with four other new nominees Lisa White, Dr Stephen Phillips, David Brown and Gavin Lawrie, and two existing representatives who have re-nominated Ned Wales and Robert Quirk.

Council officers have recommended that the councillors appoint two panel members and one alternative member from the list of nominees.

Mr Skinner said he nominated because he said the Tweed needed a strong voice on the panel.

"The first decision to build that police station on the Kingscliff foreshore was the wrong place for it," Mr Skinner said.

He said the decision not to approve a Noble Lakeside development earlier this year was "totally inept".

"I do believe there is some room for improvement," Mr Skinner said.

"I am concerned for the area."

The Joint Regional Planning Panel approved a primary school for Pottsville and is considering a $30-million tourist park for Tweed Heads South.
