TRANSPORT on New Years Eve is going to be a whole lot better than pervious years with a free bus service announced.

Party-goers excited to bring in the New Year twice will get their chance in the twin tows, when they cross the border to Coolangatta they will find three busses provided by the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC).

Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce president Gail O'Neill said she was happy the request she put through to Councillor Chris Robbins was approved.

"It will provide a safe exit to patrons to alternative areas," she said.

"It makes sense to have this and it will also cater to patrons at the restaurants."

Coolangatta Hotel general manager Wayne Thompson said he was happy about the choice to provide transport for visitors.

"I think it's great," he said.

"I hope it continues next year."

NVRLND bar owner Darren Smith said he expected his club to be at capacity on Monday night and was grateful party-goers would be able to get home or move on.

"I think it's awesome," he said.

"I wish it was every weekend."

Coolangatta Police Sergeant Bill Kaz said the busses would assist both the GCCC and regional taxies in the distribution of the patrons in the Coolangatta area.

"Stakeholders are further hoping to have a relax in the legislation on the night of the 31st for north bound taxies," he said.

Mrs O'Neill said the chamber pushed for the taxi laws on the night to be relaxed allowing drivers to pick up and drop of customers anywhere but she hadn't heard anything.

The busses will be free and have multiple stops on the Gold Coast Hwy before reaching its destination Broadbeach.

Pick up will be in front of the Blue Sea Resort at 12.30am, 1.30am and 3am.
