AS THE first rays of sunlight rose over the Tropical Fruits New Year's Eve party at Lismore Showground, the last thing on Leslie Parker's mind was sleep.

He and his three 20-something mates from Sydney had another party to attend as part of their busy schedule - the Fruits Pool Party, and it didn't disappoint.

"This is really great," Leslie beamed. "Where else can you dance poolside to a great DJ?"

The pool party at Lismore's Memorial Baths has become a "must attend" for those - young and old - who have the stamina to continue to celebrate into the New Year.

And it is just getting bigger, with about 700 revellers filling the baths to capacity.

"It is the first time we have come up year for New Year," Leslie said.

"We have friends at Byron and the Gold Coast and they told us about it.

"We will definitely be back next year."

That's something local businesses love to hear.

A Southern Cross University researcher estimated a couple of years ago that the Tropical Fruits festivities pull in about $5 million to the local economy.

Admittedly, the state of the economy was the last thing on these revellers' minds. They were having too much fun trying to transverse two 25-metre-long inflatables.

Of course Fruits event drag queens were on hand to lend a bit of glamour, with the dance beat provided by local DJ 1I Samurai and Sydney DJ Matt Vaughan.

But, as they say, all good things must come to an end, but not until last night when the Fruits final Recovery Party at the Showground was to be held.

And have no doubt, our four buffed 20-somethings planned to be there as well - stamina permitting of course.
