TOBYN Burvill said his Lismore Trinity Catholic College side was not discouraged despite slipping to another loss in the 40th annual Marist Cricket Carnival.

Trinity found batsman Rowan Stott of Victorian side Assumption College Kilmore too hot to handle.

Stott hit a fine 90 off 97 balls to set his team up for a comprehensive 84-run win at Heaps Oval, Lismore, yesterday.

Despite seeing his side slip to a second loss in three encounters, skipper Burvill said his team remained upbeat.

"I don't think we are doing too much wrong," he said.

"If we come out and keep our fielding tight - or maybe make a big score if we bat first - then we should go well.

"I am (still) enjoying the tournament and our boys are still really keen to get out there."

Stott's knock helped his side amass 9-210 from its 50 overs.

Max Harlen was the pick of the hosts' attack, taking 3-39.

Trinity made slow but steady progress in response, reaching 1-52 in the 23rd over.

Opener Sam Martin's dismissal for 26 prompted a collapse, though, with the hosts losing quick wickets.

Burvill top-scored with 33 and tailender Daniel Hamshaw made 17 not out but their efforts proved in vain as Trinity was dismissed in the final over for 126.

The competition features six sides from across the country. Trinity will face Marcellin College at Mortimer Oval today (Sunday) before finishing off against Sydney college St Joseph's at Oakes Oval tomorrow.
