TWELVE students from Tweed Heads Public School are putting on their dancing shoes and heading to Sydney for the 2012 Schools Spectacular.

The students from Year 5-6 will be participating in the Don't You Think it's Time dance section and the finale of the event in late November.

Coordinating teacher Sophie Cutler said the students had been motivated when learning the dance moves and fundraising for the trip.

"They're really excited to have the opportunity to represent our school," Miss Cutler said.

"It's been a massive boost to their self esteem that they've been chosen to do it."

Miss Cutler said participating in the event had helped to raise the profile of the school.

"For us to be travelling all the way to Sydney is a really exciting thing," she said.

Emmi Kretzschmar is one of the students who was lucky enough to be selected in the final 12.

"I'm really looking forward to performing on the stage," she said.

"It's going to be amazing dancing in front of all those people."

The selection process began at the start of the school year when the students sent in a three-minute audition video.

The students will travel to Sydney on November 21 to perform in shows on November 23 and 24.

Other schools in the area involved include Murwillumbah High School, Tweed River High School, Banora Point Public School, Centaur Public School, Kingscliff Public School, Kingscliff High School and Terranora Public School.
