Ladies light up Woodford night two

KATE Miller-Heidke and Julia Stone added a feminine touch to Woodford last night.

The two solo artists headlined the Amphitheatre stage where, luckily, the afternoon's rain storms cleared for two moon-light performances.

Stone was backed by a super group featuring members of Tin Pan Orange and Gotye's band. 

She opened her hour-long set with a cover of The National's Bloodbuzz Ohio and then rewarded her loyal fans with And The Boys.

Just as she had joined her brother Angus the night before during his show, Stone invited her sibling up on stage to sing two songs with her.

After a busy year working on solo projects, Stone said it was "really special" for them to see each other perform at Woodford.

When a punter yelled out "marry me", the soft-spoken songstress replied with "but I don't know you".

He rebutted with "just say yes" and shy Stone appeased him with "maybe we should get to know each other first".

She closed her set with a charming rendition of My Girl, with her band stepping in as backing vocalists.

"This is the first time we've done this together, so forgive us," she said.

Returning the event she first attended when she was 17, Kate Miller-Heidke told the crowd Woodford was her favourite festival.

The Brisbane singer, who also met her now husband at Woodford, told the crowd of how her song Caught in the Crowd is now being used in schools for anti-bullying education.

She said it was great how "songs become other things" after they are released into the public space.

The Woodford Folk Festival continues today with performances by the John Butler Trio, Katchafire, Mama Kin, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Kooli.
