Linedancers top the nation

THE Lennox Beach Linedancers have plenty to click their heels about.

The club won the Club of the Year award at the national linedance championships at Tamworth during the annual country music festival.

Manager of the group, Susan Vidler, said it was a great achievement for the 14 girls who represented Lennox Head at the championship because they were up against four other clubs from around Australia, most of which were from large metropolitan areas.

"To come from a coastal village, and not be from the city - our girls were so excited," she said. The Lennox linedancers competed in duo, trio and group dances in age and open categories, as well as country music and non-country music categories.

They ended up with 92 gold medals to take the national title.

All up, the girls - it's just that the club doesn't have any male members - had to dance from 9.30am-4.30pm each day over the four days.

And with restrictions on the numbers of times a club can dance to a particular song, there are lots of routines for the girls to remember.

Susan said the Lennox girls gave up time in their school holidays to rehearse for the competition.

The Lennox linedancers have been around for about 10 years, with various names in that time.

They meet each Thursday afternoon at the Lennox Head Public School for two hours.

Kimberly Vidler is the choreographer. She teamed up with Susie Daniels at the national championships to win the Open Country Buckle, which is one of the prestigious titles in the championship.
