MURWILLUMBAH hoarder Phil Davison is the perfect candidate to appear on the US TV show American Pickers.

A version of the show, that has some wild and woolly characters roaming the landscape of America seeking to turn one man's trash into another's treasure, is coming to Australia.

The Aussie version will run on Foxtel's A and E channel and Phil Davison is on the agenda.

Preparing for the dizzy heights of stardom, Mr Davison is philosophical about the attention.

"I have a lot of pretty interesting stuff," he said.

"But to sell some of it could be like losing an arm or a leg," he laughed.

Mr Davison has Chevrolets, pumps, motorbikes and two very unusual wooden statues.

"I brought them back from the Philippines,' he said.

"They are solid timber and about six feet tall."

He's not sure who put the producers on to him.

"I've got a feeling a mate dobbed me in," he said.

The show will have two "pickers" hitting the back roads and barnyards of Australia, earning a living by restoring forgotten relics to their former glory.

A and E Channel is commissioning a 10 part series with Shine Australia.

The series will follow the Australian pickers as they scour the country for hidden gems in junkyards, basements, garages and sheds, meeting quirky characters and hearing their amazing stories.

The hosts of Aussie Pickers will be announced in the coming weeks.

"It should be an interesting experience," Mr Davison said.

Mr Davison is one of the co-ordinators of the Murwillumbah Men's Shed.

They are also having a clear out with a garage sale planned for March 16.
