Man arrested for shooting man in the head at Mullaway

UPDATE 11.35AM:

DETECTIVES have this morning arrested a 20-year-old Woolgoolga man in relation to last night's shooting at Mullaway.

Police confirmed a suspect was taken into custody around 11.30am at Woolgoolga.

Further details have also been revealed by police about the shooting in a quiet Mullaway street where a man was shot in the head while seated in a car containing his partner and three children.

Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Cameron Lindsay said the suspect was arrested in Hawks Dr, Woolgoolga and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

In what police are calling a 'horrible coincidence', the gunshot victim's partner is the daughter of the 57-year-old man whose body was found in the surf below Woolgoolga Headland just an hour before the shooting occurred last night.

Police have been told the possible motive for the shooting was a relationship dispute involving the victim and a woman.

More details will be released when they come to hand.

09:30AM

POLICE are continuing to investigate the shooting at Mullaway Bay last night, which left a man suffering gunshot wounds to the head.

Officers were called to Darkum Rd at Mullaway about 5.30pm following reports shots had been fired.

Police and ambulance paramedics arrived to find an injured 35-year-old man suffering 'superficial' gun shot wounds to the right side of his head.

Police said the man was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for treatment.

He was initially reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

A white Holden Commodore was seized for forensic examination at the scene.

Police are investigating reports that the offender followed the victim and his family home from a local beach.

Early investigations suggest the incident arose as a result of a personal relationship.

Police said further details in relation to the incident would be released today.

The shooting came during a busy afternoon for emergency services on the Northern Beaches following the drowning of a 57-year-old man at Mullaway Bay yesterday.

The death is being treated as non-suspicious, however a post mortem with be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Police have confirmed that while investigations are ongoing, there is no investigative link between the two incidents.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
