RUSSELL Morris is no stranger to the Tweed.

The seasoned performed has played at Twin Town Services Club at least 20 times in the last 10 years and said it's always a great gig.

"I'd hate to think how long I've been performing there," he said.

"I've always wanted to live up there at Rainbow Bay.

"I love that spot." Morris also loves us. "The audience is always great up there," he said.

On Saturday, January 19, music lovers will get to see Morris in the flesh as he performs solo at Twin Towns.

However this is one of his first solo performances due to the death of co-musician Darryl Cotton last year which left the popular band Cotton, Keays & Morris disbanded.

Morris has taken a bit of a different tune mainly focusing on blues in his new album Sharkmouth.

It is loosely based on characters and events spanning from 1916 to the end of the Great Depression, 'Sharkmouth' is a journey through some of Australia's most iconic and untold stories.

Think Squizzy Taylor, Phar Lap, the Painters and Dockers, Les Darcy and Mr Eternity.

Morris said he wanted to capture a true roots and blues representation of the Aussie battler.

A long-time project in the making, Morris invited some of Australia's finest artists (including James Black, Troy Cassar-Daley, Renee Geyer, Diesel and Chris Wilson) to help create a record full of sultry grooves and earthy textures amid familiar blues standards.

Last Monday it reached number one on the blue charts.

"It's not hard to be a musician," he said.

"People who say it's hard, that's rubbish.

"It is only hard to stay on top of peoples interests."

Tickets are $25 and can be bought online at twintowns.com.au or by calling 1800 014 014.
