Mums work on fitness with youngsters in tow

MUMS and their babies are having fun together thanks to an initiative of the Ipswich Hospital Foundation.

The Mum 'N' Bubs Walking Group, as part of the foundation's Fit4Life movement, has been in operation since October under the guidance of qualified personal trainer Belle Stockwell, who is a mother herself.

"It is a way for mums to network and get out of the house and still get fit at the same time," Ms Stockwell said.

"We all have lots of fun."

The mums and bubs meet at 8am on Tuesday morning at the top car park of River Heart Parklands.

The session includes a walk, a hill run, a personal training session and some stretching.

"Sometimes it is nice to get out of the house - and if you have got a screaming child we don't care," Ms Stockwell said.

"We are all mums, so if the kids are having a rough day we all understand.

"If you get out in the fresh air and smile with us, we can make it better," Ms Stockwell said.

And she has 10-month-old daughter Aurora, so she knows what she is talking about.

"Some of the children sleep, but if some of them are having a rough day we incorporate them into the session," she said.

"We entertain the babies while we are doing the exercises. We are all pretty close knit and we always welcome new mums.

"Mums who have toddlers they need to drop off can come later. We have a few mums that do that and it is fine.

"Anyone can come, so long as you don't mind toddlers," Ms Stockwell said.

Participation in the sessions is by gold coin donation and those interested are asked to just turn up on Tuesday mornings.

For those looking for a more intense workout to do with their bub, the Stroller Boot Camp is on at 8.15am each Friday at the Springfield Lake Tennis Courts, near IGA.

For more information about the Stroller Boot Camp or to book contact Kristy on 0437 843 393.

Bookings for the boot camp are essential.
