MURWILLUMBAH Mavericks won the open mixed grand final in a hard fought contest against tournament favourites the Easts Roosters at this year's NSW State Cup.

The Mavericks turned around a four touchdown deficit to claim victory 6-5.

Easts Roosters were out to prove a point after losing the title to the Mavericks in last year's grand final.

The Roosters started quick with two touchdowns within the first 15 minutes before Maverick's Cassandra Farley scored the first for the eventual champions.

As the game progress the Maverick's lifted and controlled much of the ball in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Kylie Gainer scored two quick touchdowns in the final three minutes which saw the game levelled up at 6-6.

Regular time end at the score and it was Gainer again in the first set of extra time to claim victory with the Roosters unable to score with their set.

In other games, the Mavericks Open Mens won the Shield Grand Final 9-1 over Hills Hornets.

Mavericks Mixed Open 2 lost the Plate Grand Final in extra time to North Sydney Bears 5-4.

Mavericks Senior Mixed lost the grand final to North Sydney Bears 6-3.

The Mavericks Womens 20s just missed out on the semis by ladder percentage standings.

The five team's performances were enough to award Murwillumbah Touch as the best country performing affiliate at the 2012 State Cup.

There were 206 teams taking part in the state titles.
