A COAL seam gas blockade in Glenugie, south of Grafton, had a visit from north coast mayors today, but one mayor was missing.

Tweed Shire mayor Barry Longland said commitments at Murwillumbah made it impossible for him to take the trip to the blockade.

"I have sent my apologies for not being able to attend," Cr Longland said.

Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell and Byron Bay mayor Simon Richardson visited the site today.

Lock the Tweed's Michael McNamara said this visit was an initiatives of the mayors.

"Different people do have different priorities," Mr McNamara said.

"I would hope that when he (Cr Longland) does get the opportunity then he will visit the site."

Police arrested 18 people almost two weeks ago at the Glenugie site.

Mr McNamara said a new blockade has started at Doubtful Creek only 80km from Murwillumbah.

"These are not professional protestors they are members of the community," Mr McNamara said.

"It's (Doubtful Creek) our next door neighbour and if your neighbour was in trouble wouldn't you want to help out."

"I'm asking people to get off their computers and get down there."
