THEY say a picture can tell a thousand words and if that is true then Greg Sweetnam has told at least a million.

The former NSW Sugar corporate relations manager has captured all that is beautiful on the Tweed coast.

"Taking photos around the coast is sensational," he said.

"I'm sure all photographers would agree there is some of the best light in the world in Tweed.

"The valley to coast contrast in such a small area is just phenomenal."

The self-taught photographer said his skills did not come easily.

"You've got to have a bit of an eye," he said.

"I'm luck to have some natural talent but I've had to learn a lot."

His article on how to get kids involved in photography and how to make the most of their images was featured in Digital Photography Magazine this month.

Mr Sweetnam said his preferred gear is old second-hand Canon digital cameras and modest lenses.

He's also had images taken on point-and-shoot cameras published.

"My gear takes a bit of a battering but they have never let me down and I like to keep things as simple as possible," he said.

The former Murwillumbah resident's advice for any would be photographer is to snap away at whatever interests them, and be sure to have a network of like-minded photographers to learn with.
