Muster up your old mobiles and preserve some memories

NEXT week is National Recycling Week and to support the Planet Ark initiative, Mobile Muster, the Australian mobile phone industry's official product stewardship program, has launched a new initiative 'Memory Muster'.

There are over 22 million unwanted phones in homes and businesses in Australia and although the phones are not biodegradable and contain substances which can harm the environment, 90% of the materials used can be recycled.

Memory Muster aims to encourage residents to hand in their old mobile phones and in return receive six postcard size prints of photos stored on the old phone.

To get the set of six premium postcards depicting your much-loved memories, all you need to do is visit Mobile Muster's website and upload your six favourite photos.

It's then simply a matter of dropping your old mobile at a post office or sending it to Mobile Muster by mail and once the mobile is received by the company, it will send you your six postcards.

The initiative runs until December 31 and includes an online competition which will give you the chance to have your photo exhibited and published.

Winners will also receive tickets to a Memory Muster gala event to be held in Sydney in January next year when the winning photos will be displayed.

Australian celebrities Laura Enever and Gyton Grantley will judge the photos and share some of their own pictorial memories as part of the campaign.

The Mobile Muster program is the only one of its kind in the world and to date has collected 947 tonnes of mobile phone components including 6.75 million handsets and batteries.

To join the effort and get rid of your unwanted phone, visit Mobile Muster's website at mobilemuster.com.au.
