TIME flies when you're having fun. Just ask John Pitt, secretary of the Murwillumbah Men's Shed for the last four years.

"But it's time to hand over the reins," he told My Daily News.

With co-founder and 'patron saint,' Phil Davison, this dynamic duo started with the genesis of an idea for a resource for men in the Tweed to call their own.

"It culminated in our magnificent new home in part of the Tweed Shire Council's water treatment plant at Bray Park," Mr Pitt said.

Michael Newell has accepted the appointment as Mr Pitt's successor, as secretary and newsletter typist.

"It's not easy for an older person like myself to whom computer thingies are still novel, but I promise to persevere, even if I have to hand-write them all and hand-deliver them," Mr Newell said.

"All members of MCMS express our collective gratitude to John for getting us to where we are now.

"His wonderful guidance, humour, and support in the role of secretary of MCMS since its early beginnings it's greatly appreciated."

The shed is normally open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but has now extended to Thursdays.

"Those with a musical bent may like to bring an instrument and jam with John McDonald and myself if the shed is otherwise a bit quiet," Mr Newell said.
