TWO men charged with murder over the king-hit death of a man outside the Kingscliff Beach hotel will next appear in court in January.

Former NRL star Craig Field remains behind bars having not entered a plea over the incident which occurred on Sunday July 15.

Cudgera Creek cattle farmer Kelvin Kane died on hospital on July 16 as a result of injuries sustained in the alleged assault.

Field's co-accused Shaun Fathers, who was previously granted bail, appeared in court represented by his solicitor Cameron Bell.

Mr Bell asked the court to vary Fathers bail conditions so he could live with a friend on the Gold Coast.

As there is a large surety from Fathers' mother and brother, Magistrate R Denes asked Mr Bell to contact Fathers' mother and brother to see if they approved of the bail variation.

Fathers was allowed to leave the court before his revised bail was finalised to be with his dying father in a Gold Coast hospital.

Ms Denes adjourned Father and Fields cases until January 22 at Lismore Local Court.
