North Wall walkway to close for works

WALKERS who use the eastern end of North Wall will have to find a different route for their daily exercise from February 4 when the area is closed for upgrade works on the wall.

The car park surrounding the marine rescue tower also will be off limits.

However, the shared pathway area near the marine rescue tower, which turns into Lighthouse Pde, will remain open and accessible to the public.

Access to Lighthouse Beach will be available along any of the bush access pathways leading from the shared path on Lighthouse Pde.

Civil Team Engineering on behalf of NSW Trade and Investment, Crown Lands, will begin work on upgrading North Wall on February 4.

The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

The work will involve the installation of concrete armour units, known as hanbars, that will assist in stabilising the wall.

The hanbars will be stored in the area from the rescue tower to Fenwick Dr.

Access to the public toilets will remain.

The volunteers at the Volunteer Marine Rescue tower will retain access to their parking area.

This latest upgrade is a continuation of work that began with the construction of the North and South walls in the 1890s.

Recent paving works along the wall have made it popular for walkers and cyclists, and popular among tourists.
