PADDLERS from the Tweed went full force into the Pan Pacific Master Games last month.

Some even walked away gold and bronze medals.

Coolangatta Mt Warning Dragon Boat Club president Mick Davies said his club combined with Tweed Heads and Redlands to enter the games as the Cool Red Heads.

It was his first time at the games and despite being disqualified after crossing the line first he still loved it.

"The club has competed in two previously but this was my first time," he said.

"It was great fun and I'll definitely be going back in two years time."

Weather conditions made things just that little bit more difficult for competitors in the 500m race.

"Some unfortunate mishaps saw the grand masters mixed team cross the line first position but not come away with the gold," he said.

"We got disqualified because we went into other peoples lames and went a bit off course.

"The very windy weather made it a difficult challenge."

The Saturday competition saw much more favourable conditions for the 200m races.

The masters women's team squashed some very tough competition to bring home a gold and the grand masters mixed team claimed bronze in a very close photo finish for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing.
