THIS year's toy of choice for Christmas is the Furby.

The little creature with the big ears and saucer-like eyes topped Tweed kids' wish lists about a decade ago and it has again seen a resurgence in popularity.

Toyworld Tweed Heads South owner John Atwood said the Furby was back.

"I sold out of mine last week and I can't get any more before Christmas," Mr Atwood said.

"No one can. They (toymaker Hasbro) brought out a certain about for Christmas and demand has outstripped supply.

"It is mainly girls that want them but there are some boys."

Mr Atwood said getting kids seeing the product before Christmas was the key for toymakers.

"As soon as they whack it on TV and kids start asking for it then it sells," he said.

"From year to year you just don't know what's going to be popular. There is always one of two items that are red hot."

Mr Atwood said it was not the only toy that was proving popular with a flying Tinkerbell selling out and the old favourite Lego still popular.

Toy Kingdom in Murwillumbah has also sold out of the Furby to.

Toy Kingdom co-owner Jo Philip said there were not a lot of surprises this year.

"People have come in and asked about the flying fairies (Tinkerbell) and Sylvania Family," Ms Philip said.

"We have had people in for Christmas but it's not as busy as we would have liked for this time of year."
