THE streets will be full of people looking for a good time to bring in the New Year tonight and as a precaution police are shutting down Marine Pde Coolangatta.

The road will be closed between Dutton St and Warner St from 8pm until 4am.

"Police are also encouraging revellers to use public transport or taxis where possible as limited parking can be expected at major entertainment locations," a police statement said.

"Exercise patience with other commuters waiting for these services and consider the additional time it may take to arrive at other events as road closures and detours may impact on arrival times, as can heavier than normal traffic flows."

Coolangatta police Senior Constable Julie Glaister said the closers were just for the purpose of New Year's Eve and things would be back to normal in the morning.

Various business were unaware of the closure including O Sushi Restaurant chef Ryo Okubo who said he had no idea about the closure.

Some other road closures include:

Runaway Bay: The Esplanade at Paradise Point from Falkinder Ave to Bruce Ave from 6pm to 10pm.

Surfers Paradise: The Esplanade between View Ave.
