Scissor Queen set to reign in return to track

THIS afternoon heralds the return of the queen of the Grafton greyhound racing scene, the Dave Irwin-trained Scissor Queen.

During the 2012 racing year, Scissor Queen was beaten on just the one occasion - in her first start for the year, way back on January 6.

From that moment on she set about creating quite an impression with 10 wins in a row with her victory in the time-honoured Village Green Sprinters Cup the pinnacle.

Despite resuming from over five months off the scene it would be folly to try to find another runner to beat her as when she is on her game she is quite simply too good.

The daughter of Knocka Norris and Surf Queen has brilliant early acceleration and strength at the finish of her races and only bad luck can stop her from making it 11 in a row from box 8 in the Phil McLennan Earthmoving Free For All.

Neville Robson looks to be the trainer to follow on the day with the astute Alstonville-based mentor saddling up three runners which are guaranteed a start while another is currently listed as first reserve.

All three runners which have secured a start looked terribly difficult to beat, while his reserve runner, Allegro Dot, should it be successful in gaining a start in the Roches Family Hotel Maiden over 305 metres.

Neville's first certain starter is Allegro Idol which will jump from box 8 in the Singleton Rugby League Old Boys Maiden over 407 metres and he looks to be perfectly drawn out there.

Allegro Idol is the veteran of just one official race start which punters would do well to ignore as it resulted in an unplaced effort at Lismore recently after finding trouble however he did clock a slick 24.26 seconds in winning a maiden qualy there prior and a repeat of that run today will see him very difficult to beat.

Allegro Star will be looking to make it two wins in two weeks in the Pullens Produce Stakes and she looks to be a big chance of doing so.

Last run Allegro Star was responsible for a solid 23.24-second win with the feature of that victory being a smart first section which is where greyhound races are predominately run and won.

From box 2 today Allegro Star is once again nicely drawn inside the speed and he can be expected to go even quicker this afternoon.

Neville's final runner will be Allegro Diva, which was responsible for a big effort when giving the smart Miner's Moss a tidy start before running that greyhound down to a narrow half-head defeat in 23.22 seconds.

Make no bones about it, although Diva by name, this greyhound is in fact a strongly built 35kg dog which got stuck with the feminine name purely by error and he has plenty of strength at the finish of his races so if he can race handy to the pace, which looks likely, then he should have much too much strength at the finish and does appeal as the best bet of the day.
