Seagulls say the team is clean and so are the Titans

THE Seagulls Rugby League Club will meet with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) on Monday for a drug education lecture organised by Queensland Rugby League.

The Seagulls act as a feeder club for the Gold Coast Titans.

The Titans came under scrutiny after jar of urine was found in their dressing room plumbing. The discovery had been considered suspicious in light of the current drugs in sport scandal.

Seagulls executive officer Terry Keen said penalties for Seagulls players caught taking drugs were serious.

"We let them know that the NRL wont tolerate it and neither will the club," he said.

"Their contracts will be ripped up on the spot."

"We do it prior to kickoff for the season. And I'm quite sure the NRL have the same thing in place."

Mr Keen said he believed the Titans were not using performance enhancing drugs.

"I believe that there's no way in the world the club would tolerate it," he said.

"I'm very supportive and know the Titans would not be involved.

Mr Keen said he also believed Seagulls players were not involved in performance enhancing drugs and random testing for many years had proved the club was clean.

"We have our own anti-doping policy," he said.

"There are standards and procedures that are maintained," he said.

He said that Titans also underwent rigorous testing for performance enhancing drugs, which was similar to the Seagulls own testing procedures.

"We have three or four random testings a year. I believe that their policy is very similar to ours."

"In all our years of Rugby League we've never had a player suspended."

Mr Keen said he would be interested in what the NRL had to say about the hidden urine jar.

The NRL club's operations boss, Ian Buchanan, told the media the discovery was a mystery and the vials could have been put there by any sporting team that used the ground.

Other sides to use the ground included Rugby Sevens, Australia, Argentina, and the now-defunct Gold Coast United soccer team.

Earlier, the club issued a statement saying it was fully supportive of the NRL's investigation into doping and integrity issues.
