WITH a successful launch of the 2012 Grafton Show and Shine now under his bonnet of his 1980 Transam Firebird, motoring enthusiast and event organiser Todd Pearson was yesterday proud to hand over $1350 to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service.

Raised from registration fees and donations from the public on the day, the donation was accepted by community relations officer Rebekah Goodwin on behalf of the organisation.

Mr Pearson said he was inspired to organise a local event to help raise funds for the rescue service because it was a vital service much needed in the community.

"I wanted to hold a family-based event to help raise money for them so they can continue the good work they do," Mr Pearson said.

"At first I only wanted to organise a small local event but the interest in the 2012 Grafton Show and Shine has been overwhelming."

Mr Pearson said the event attracted entrants from all over South-East Queensland and Northern NSW, with hundreds of visitors coming through the gates.

More than 60 vehicles entered, with a fully functioning 1959 Mr Whippy van being a huge hit with the crowds on the day.

He said the event will be back next year, by popular demand.
