MURWILLUMBAH retailers report the emergence of a new crocodile hunter, ala Steve Irwin, who has rescued a local store owner from the snapping jaws of a hostile reptile.

When Murwillumbah Video Ezy store manager John King faced off against a large invading lizard recently, the reptile proved at first uncooperative and ultimately rather aggressive.

As the animal had no membership card and refused to show a photo ID, Mr King decided his customer couldn't be trusted to return any hired DVDs and went about evicting the reptile from the premises.

In a show of defiance, the animal bit Mr King on the thumb before leaving the store without the Jurassic Park DVD it was interested in.

Earlier this week, a smaller cousin of the large video store invader appeared at Sandra Guthrie's Poster Paradise store at Murwillumbah's Main St.

Having heard of the ruckus the large lizard caused at the Video Ezy store, Ms Guthrie enlisted the help of people walking past the shop who were not too happy to risk life and limb to remove the intruder from the store.

Fortunately, John King came to the rescue and removed the animal from Sandra's store without further incident.

To commemorate the event and warn people of the presence of a potentially violent reptile loose on the streets of Murwillumbah, Sandra placed a poster, depicting John with the lizard, in her shop.

The poster called John the new 'Wildlife Warrior' who rescued damsel Sandra from the attack of a crocodile which had invaded her shop.

Sandra said since she put up the poster, the number of people visiting the store to ask which shop was invaded by a crocodile was unbelievable.

"When people then see the photo of John with the lizard, they burst out laughing.

"I thought we need a bit of humour occasionally.

"John is now known as Murwillumbah's Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter," Sandra said.
