SHOPPERS in Grafton's Prince St became welcome graffiti artists when the SES came to town as part of an awareness campaign today.

One of three specially laminated SES trucks touring NSW parked in the main drag with volunteers in orange jump suits encouraging passers by to write messages of thanks and their signatures on the side of the truck.

The exercise was part of SES Week, a chance for NSW to say thanks to the thousands of SES volunteers for their efforts in 2012.

Clarence Valley SES community engagement co-ordinator Megan Hill said with around 70 per cent of NSW affected by drought earlier this year, there was a lot of people wanting to say thank you.

"The truck journeys have been targetted at the communities where there was flooding," Ms Hill said.

Ms Hill said Prince St shoppers were more than happy to say thank you to the SES volunteers in black and white.

"We pulled up at 11.15am and by 11.30 we already had more than 15 people writing on the van," she said.

The truck visiting Grafton began its journey in Dubbo and has visitied Narrabri, Moree, Inverell and Casino.

Ms Hill said the truck will meet up with the other two, completing the southern and western circuits of the State, in Martin Place, Sydney, tomorrow.
