LOCAL kids got the chance to travel through space and time yesterday thanks to the StarLab Education Cosmodome show which visited the Lismore Regional Art Gallery for a day of educational astronomy and earth science shows.

Director of the Lismore Regional Art Gallery Brett Adlington said it was great to have the fun of the Cosmodome in town for the day.

"It fits in nicely with our current exhibition, Night Visions," Mr Adlington said.

Presenter of the Cosmodome show, Paul Tickner, explained how the show inside the intricate inflatable dome cuts those inside off from the outside world and takes them on a journey through space.

Inside the science theatre and planetarium, the child- ren get immersed in a new world where a simulated sky is broadcast around them, allowing them to observe the stars, including a skyscape of the Greek constellations and astrology.

Another cool aspect is the "rocket through space", where the children get to "visit" all the planets including the moon

He said 95% of his time with the Cosmodome is spent touring to schools in NSW and Queensland, where he tailors the show to fit with what the students are currently learning in class.

Either way, he said, it's an amazing show that has the kids intrigued right from the beginning.

"It's very engaging, mainly because it's all around them, it's colourful, it's loud and it's space - what kid doesn't want to go to space?"

Christine Minkov, of Lismore Heights, and her children Alice, 6, and Daniel Willock-Minkov, 9, were enjoying the spectacular show.

Ms Minkov said she had brought the kids along so they could learn and understand how big and important nature is.

"And because I wanted to come!" she admitted.

"They're really keen - Daniel is always asking questions about the stars and planets and how we fit into the universe."
