Stroke of genius, mother invents sun-visor for nippers

A BANORA Point mother has invented a visor that has many surf lifesavers tipping their caps.

Nicole Bushnell has invented a visor that attaches to surf life saving caps and can retract when the lifesaver is in the water.

Mrs Bushnell said the cap was inspired while watching her children do nipper training.

"The idea came from heading down to nippers every weekend and seeing the kids running around for 2-3 hours without the protection," she said.

"I have always put a hard-rimmed cap under the surf life saving cap."

The hard-rimmed cap was awkward, so Mrs Bushnell spent a month devising the retractable visor.

"I tried different types of rims but to get them to fit with the head was difficult," Mrs Bushnell said.

According to Mrs Bushnell, there has been great feedback from parents and Surf Life Saving Victoria.

"What Surf Life Saving Victoria is asking is will they be ready by next season," she said.

The next step was to get Surf Life Saving Australia's endorsement of the visor.

"I would ask parents to go to the Facebook page and put their feedback in," Mrs Bushnell said.

Mrs Bushnell expects to produce the visor commercially in about two to three months.
