STRONG is the new skinny and this summer twenty-somethings are embracing the motto more than ever.

Genesis personal trainer Rose Stritzke said younger men and women on the coast were right into looking fit and healthy.

"People don't want to be thin, they want to be fit," she said.

"A lot of people are more health conscious.

"People really care about their image."

The trainer of three years said in August gym memberships increased.

"Especially towards Christmas people just really want to get into fitness," she said.

Kingscliff mum Sharon Jensen is 30, fabulous and fit.

If you were to spot her in public you would possibly mistake her for being in her early 20s thanks to her killer abs.

"I've been personal training for about 10 weeks," she said.

"It just makes me feel and look good."

Miss Jensen has been training herself for most of her life but had only enlisted Miss Stritzke's help recently to strengthen her upper body.

She too has noticed a fitness boom.

"I've seen it so much, especially all over Facebook," she said.

Miss Stritzke said the increasing love of fitness among people was great.

"It's really positive," she said.

"It will certainly help with the obesity epidemic.

"But the negative is some females might think they have to look a certain way.

"Not everyone can achieve the model look they'd like."

With anything there are always people who take fitness to the extreme.

Miss Stritzke said two weeks before a music festival the gym will be packed with men training twice a day every day.

"It's really funny," she said.

"They'll get a spray tan and wax and once it's over we will never see them again."

It is also common for men to do a hardcore arm workout before heading for a night out on the town to look buff.

If you're looking to get fit and fabulous Miss Stritzke will hold her third bootcamp starting in January.
