THE Kingy Challenge will kick off this weekend and anyone looking for a fun fitness event should head down.

The event involves a 350m flat water swim and a 4km run, for those looking for a bit less of a challenge or a more social event there will also be a 4km walk around the beautiful Cudgen Creek.

"Come on down," Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club director of surf sports Cheryl Cain said.

"It's all about having some fun.

"You do not have to be an athlete to join in; it's all about challenging yourself."

The club wanted to go with a "being fit and health theme" for this year's event.

Any fitness level is welcome and you can work in a team of two for the run/swim event.

Mrs Cain said the Kingy Challenge was to raise funds for the SLSC.

All money raised will be put toward patrols on the beach and maintaining the SLSC's equipment as well as developing a youth leadership program and training.

Formally known as the Kingscliff Turbine Run Series the name change was taken on board to make it more relevant to locals.

New sponsors have jumped on board to help out with Kozzi Swimwear are supporting the event this year.

There are plenty of categories for the run/swim event for the entire family including 12, 14 and 17 years and under races.

There is also an 18+ and open section, 40 years + and team.

Registration kicks off at 6:30am on Sunday, November 11 with the first race starting at 7am.

Each competitor will need to pay $15 to register.
