Swimmer rescued at Brunswick Heads

A 33-year-old Townsville woman was rescued from South Wall at Brunswick Heads on the weekend by a person in an inflatable dinghy and lifesavers.

Emergency services were called to the site around 3.15pm on Saturday when the woman was spotted struggling 100m from shore. A man in an inflatable dinghy was able to reach the swimmer and take her to nearby Torakina Beach.

Volunteers from the Brunswick Surf Life Saving Club assisted the female until paramedics arrived.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service was called to the scene but it was not needed when the woman had been taken to shore.

Ambulance services attended the victim but she was not transported to a hospital.

Surf Life Saving NSW spokeswoman Donna Wishart called for visitors to beaches across the State to be careful with treacherous surf conditions and to only swim between flags.
