YOU can bet your bacon that Britt's Meat in Tweed Heads offers top quality produce, with a side order of useful cooking advice.

My Kitchen Rules has been a hit nationwide, scoring top ratings as millions tune in to watch the teams of two turn their kitchen into a restaurant fit for competition.

But controversy was the order of the day after a Hervey Bay butcher, known only as Scotty, was criticised for selling a supposedly sub par cut of bacon to the meat mad couple, Dan and Steph.

The butcher was not happy with an offhand accusation made by the pair that he'd sold a fatty piece of smoked bacon, which Dan and Steph braised in cherry cola.

However, the butcher blamed the couple's decision to buy bacon, which he said was just too fatty to braise.

Britt's Meat manager Andrew Britt said that he would have advised Dan and Steph bacon was the wrong cut of meat.

"I would've advised it's not the right cut of meat. But it's a tricky one because people are doing something different all the time," he said.

"Bacon is reasonably fatty, if people want to buy a large piece of bacon I'd ask what they're going to do with it."

"But who's to say whether I'm wrong or right? We'll serve anything that people want to try."

Mr Britt said that he would provide the best cut possible if the situation arose.

"I would source the leanest piece of bacon. But bacon does include a lot of fat from the belly," he said.

"A little bit of fat is a good thing, but no excess is what you want."

Mr Britt said he'd be glad to help customers decide what meat was best for their needs.

"I'm always glad to help. We have the best meat available at a reasonable price," he said.
