Tweed grandmother who resisted arrest in court

MORE than 100 CSG protestors are gathered outside Grafton Courthouse as those arrested last month at the Glenugie blockade begin to appear.

Tweed woman Danielle Marie Vinot-Sledge, of Kingscliff, is one of 18 protestors who will appear in court today.

Ms Vinot-Sledge, of Kingscliff, who describes the day of her arrest as 'Bloody Monday,' owns land at Lillian Rock, in Kyogle.

One of the charges faced by the 65-year-old is allegedly resisting arrest.

"I'm prepared to fight for what I believe in on this issue," she said.

"It's important that people know I'm not opposing CSG mining for the sake of opposing it.

"This gas has been in the soil for millions of years.

"What's the hurry?

"You have to ask why the mining companies are so desperate to act now.

"We need to take the time to check the safety of the procedure of extracting gas.

"No-one knows the true impact of the process.

"If there is any doubt about the water tables, the environment and the health of people, then they should take the time to make sure."

Ms Vinot-Sledge said she felt it was 'all about money.'

"There are alternative energy sources and that's what is worrying them," she said.

Regional co-ordinator for Lock the Gate Ian Gaillard said many of the people at the courthouse today were from Tweed.

"We have strong support from landowners in the Tweed who are angry over not being listened to on this issue," he said.

"Like the rest of us, they won't let the land be destroyed by this destructive industry.

"The Federal and NSW governments are negligent.

"There has been no base-line (water) testing in regard to CSG exploration."
