COUPLES are rushing to tie the knot this Wednesday, 12/12/2012, just as they did last year on 11/11/2011, those in the Ipswich wedding industry have reported.

University sweethearts Nicholas O'Connor and Nicole Huig are among the happy couples who were eager to set their wedding date for 12/12/2012.

The pair's wedding will also be the first student wedding for the University of Southern Queensland Springfield campus.

Mr O'Connor said rain forecast for tomorrow had not dampened his and Nicole's excitement to marry on the "lucky" day.

Brassall Florist owner Angela Jacob said she was also busy preparing for a local wedding.

"When I first got the call I thought it was strange the couple chose a mid-week date for their wedding, but then when she said it was the 12th of December it all clicked," Ms Jacob said.

"I find a lot of people want to marry at special times like Valentine's Day, but it can be difficult to find services like florists that can focus on your special day when it's a busy day like that.

"In terms of weddings, some people say the season is spring, but I find April all the way through to October quite busy."

Kimberley Ollen-Ankins, spokeswoman for popular wedding venue Woodlands of Marburg, said the venue was booked for that day.

"Saturday always trumps any other day for weddings, but weekdays aren't as popular - of course when you realise it's 12/12/2012 it makes sense," Ms Ollen-Ankins said.

Marriage celebrant Jane Payne said many couples liked to marry on "lucky" or "special" days.

"I remember 10/10/2010 and 11/11/2011 were definitely very big, as well as Valentine's Day every year," Ms Payne said.

"I've also had requests for New Year's Day, because a wedding seems like a great way to start the year. I've also got a wedding three days after Christmas - people choose days that they can spend with their family when they're already all together.

"I've got a lot of weddings coming into the holiday season."
