LATEST: Two men were killed and another seriously injured in a high-speed crash on a suburban Ipswich street.

A Subaru Impreza spun out of control as it travelled east along Glebe Rd, Booval about 4.45am on Tuesday, crashing into a gutter before rolling several times.

The vehicle hurtled through two yards, uprooting a large tree and smashing two timber fences before coming to rest against a house near the intersection of Thompson St.

The two passengers - one a 19-year-old Blackstone man and the other, a 28-year-old New Zealand national - were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Boronia Heights, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with a fractured skull.

Nearby residents rushed to the aid of the driver, who was still conscious and talking as he lay injured in the car.

Despite the advice of those first at the scene, the man freed himself from the vehicle.

Neighbour Jacqui Milner said she was awoken by what sounded like breaking glass.

"We thought something had fallen over inside the house," Ms Milner said.

"I went outside and smelt fuel - when I saw the car I thought there was no way anyone could have survived it."

Ms Milner said speeding was a serious problem on her section of Glebe Rd, which is often used as an alternative route to busier Brisbane Rd.

"This is a very sad way to start the year," she said.

Another nearby resident - one of the first to offer assistance to the injured driver - said Glebe Rd was a notorious rat run.

"We have had more than half a dozen accidents here in the last couple of years," he said.

"We've had cars end up in our yard too. People tear up from the roundabout on Cole St. They need to use some traffic calming along here."

The tragedy was compounded by the discovery that all three occupants were members of the same extended family.

Police confirmed the New Zealand man - a cousin of the driver - was staying with relatives at Redbank Plains.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Brett Munn said it appeared speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

He said it appeared the vehicle drove straight over the top of a flat, concrete roundabout at the intersection of Glebe Rd and Cole St before the driver lost control.

The sedan narrowly missed the first of the two houses, scraping the roof and bringing down a small section of the guttering and smashing a bedroom window.

Firefighters were called to the scene to clean up a small fuel spill.

Police blocked Glebe Rd between Cole St and Cothill Rd for several hours while the forensic crash unit began investigations into the cause of crash.
